Twelve rooms · One quiet idea

Stillhouse is built from local granite and lime plaster, and organised around light. There is no reception desk, no itinerary, and nothing you have to do.

The idea

There is no reception desk, no itinerary and no television. There is a kitchen that smells of bread by seven, a fire that is lit before you ask, and a valley that does the rest.

Stone building with a covered porch and columns

01 — Arrival

Granite, lime and long shadows.

The house sits low in the hillside. You arrive on foot along a stone path, and the building appears slowly.

02 — Interior

Rooms that hold the morning.

Oak, linen and plaster. Every room faces east so that the day starts with light instead of an alarm.

03 — Experience

Bread, steam and silence.

A wood-fired kitchen, a stone bathhouse and a valley that asks very little of you.

We arrived tired and left a week later with no idea what day it was. That is the highest compliment I can give a hotel.
