The property
A house built to be slow.
Twelve rooms, one kitchen and a bathhouse, rebuilt from a ruined farmstead over two years.

Concept
Nothing the hill could not have made.
Stillhouse began as a ruin: a single standing wall and a heap of granite. We rebuilt it using stone from the nearby quarry, lime slaked on site and chestnut from the valley.
The architecture is deliberately quiet. Low rooflines follow the slope, windows frame the east, and nothing competes with the light.
Atmosphere
Oak, linen and long shadows.
Materials are few and chosen to age. Oak for furniture, linen for bedding, wool for blankets and lime plaster that holds a faint warmth long after sunset.
There are no televisions and no minibars. There is a library, a kitchen that is always open and a fire in the barn.
